The association Riesa und die Welt e. V. thinks of itself as a contact point for all those interested in close partnerships and multilateral cultural exchanges between Riesa and all of its present and future partner cities.
Glogów/Glogau in the west of Poland has had a relationship with Riesa since October 1, 2005. Glogów/Glogau is interesting to visitors because of its thousand years of history. Discover the largest copper mill in Europe and admire its original “new” Old Town. The city was the capital of the Principality of Glogau. Almost completely destroyed during the Second World War, it has been a part of Poland since 1945. Glogów/Glogau still has a medieval network of roads with modern and stylish town houses.
The first time that Mannheim in West Germany was mentioned in official documents was in 766 and its fortress was built at the beginning of the 17th century based on the Dutch pattern. The city centre was set up in a checkerboard pattern in the 17th and 18th century. However, streets were not given names. Instead, each block of houses was given letters and numbers. Mannheim has been a twin city of Riesa since June 29, 1988 and today this former royal Palatinate residence is the second largest city in Baden–Württemberg. Mannheim is also a university city and the cultural and scientific centre of the triangular zone formed by the Rhine and Neckar Rivers. It is bordered on the eastern side by the Odenwald Forest with the Bergstrasse and on the western side by the Palatinate Forest with the Weinstrasse. That makes it an attractive holiday location for enjoyable recreation and leisure-time.
Rotherham is a steel and coal city in Central England. Situated in Yorkshire, historical buildings such as the Wentworth Woodhouse, the All Saints Church and the Chapel on the Bridge fill the guided tours along with its rural nature and large forest areas. Rotherham was a thriving and modern city at the end of the 15th century. Riesa and Rotherham have been twin cities since May 11, 1998.
