The open production facilities of the reconstructed pasta factory at
Teigwaren Riesa GmbH is not your garden-variety tourist attraction, but
surprisingly informative. You can experience firsthand how spaghetti is
made during a 90 minutes guided tour of the production facilities. Most
people do not know how delicious pasta is made. The open production
facilities tell you all of the secrets and a little bit more about
quality pasta.
And for history enthusiasts, the First German
Pasta Museum tells you the history of the pasta noodle and how
Teigwaren Riesa GmbH got where it is today. That includes historical
pictures from production, old machines, and advertising posters from
long ago and a lot of the products from times long past. It recreates
its history right before your very eyes.
Riesa’s Local History Museum has been in the former artillery barracks
at Poppitzer Platz since 1923. After a complex set of repairs since
2007, it has been returned to its former glory with state-of-the-art
design. Riesa’s Local History Museum emphasizes an educational and
event-oriented approach and experience in its exhibitions. The museum
not only offers guided tours on special topics such as Riesa’s Convent,
the history of Riesa’s settlement and regional development to the
beginning of industrialisation. It also has a wide range of projects
and events available to school classes, clubs, companies, class
reunions or family celebrations. Especially popular is the historical
school class of 1900 with Miss Nebel, the class teacher.
There
are regular guided tours of the convent from May-October where you can
learn a lot of interesting facts on this historical building. Another
highlight is the annual guided tours by moonlight where lay actors
perform the fascinating drama of Riesa’s history at various authentic
venues.
