The former artillery barracks at Poppitzer Platz has been housing Riesa’s Local History Museum since 1923. After a complex set of repairs since 2007, it has been returned to its former glory with state-of-the-art design. The Local History Museum’s collections and exhibitions
concentrate on the history of the local natural environment, the
settlement of the area around Riesa and its regional history including
art and culture. Additionally, starting in 2009, there will be
exhibitions on Riesa’s industrial history, Riesa as Saxony’s
third-largest garrison and the history of making fire and match
production. Riesa’s Local History Museum emphasizes an educational and
event-oriented approach and experience in its exhibitions.
